It is a tool from a German company that has been around since the 1920′s and their purpose is to standardize industrial colors. It isn’t necessary to know that, but I thought it was mildly interesting. They have an online tool where you can pick a color and the tool will generate a color chart showing complementary colors. I have used it and I think you will find it as useful as I have.

Also consider how many kitchen canisters you need, and the size of the canisters. You only have a certain amount of room on the counters and it shouldn’t be taken up by kitchen canisters.
